US Women National Team players have ended a six-year legal battle with their federation over equal pay, agreeing a deal worth $24m (£17.7m) plus bonuses to match the terms of the men.

The US Soccer Federation and the women’s team announced the deal Tuesday, which will see the players receive $22m, around a third of the figure they had originally sought.

US Soccer also agreed to establish a fund with $2m to benefit the players in their post-soccer careers and charitable efforts aimed at growing the sport for women.

Sky Sports reporter Anton Toloui spoke more about this news.

  1. Anyone with half of the facts, a quarter of a brain knows this is a complete miscarriage of justice. The fact that these women can't even beat a bunch of 13 and 14 year-old boys means they should get a token participation trophy and nothing more. The only thing missing from each game is the Benny Hill theme song!!

  2. For anyone who wasn’t keeping up with their lawsuit against the US federation, their original court case had been thrown out, simply because they didn’t have case. But, they had it appealed, which led to this settlement, probably because of the immense media/public pressure, along with the fact that US soccer worked out it would be cheaper to just settle now.

A few years ago, the US women were offered a contract structure identical to the mens; pay to play (you’re only paid for the games you play), with no guaranteed base pay or additional benefits. However, it had a higher pay out for winning bonuses.

    The US women rejected this because they thought it was too risky, and they wanted more guaranteed items, so all of their players collectively bargained for a safer contract;

The structure they had asked for, and were given, included a guaranteed base salary (regardless of whether they played or not) and many additional benefits (e.g health/dental/vision insurance, injury protection, severance pay, maternity pay, vacation pay, 401k, etc…) – but, the playing and winning bonuses were a lot smaller, since this is a safer contract.

After their WWC win in 2019, the US women had looked over their earnings and realised… if they had picked the mens contract structure, they would have made a lot more money.

Instead of accepting responsibility for their own choices, and dealing with the consequences of their own actions, they decided to sue the federation for ''gender discrimination'', and basically demanded the money they would have received had they been on the men's deal, in the form of back pay.

You see, these entitled and privileged women wanted to reap the rewards of both contract structures, while taking on the risks of neither of them. They wanted the benefits of both deals without any of the costs associated with them. This is the modern/western feminism movement in a nutshell.

  3. Wow. Interesting to see many people in the comments section are upset about this. I sincerely wish I had the time and energy too to get upset about some women agreeing to a pay settlement.

  4. Absolutely sad… these women bullied this organization into a settlement under debunked allegations and not one major media outlet will report honestly on it.

  5. American men teams as face like of messi neymar n kyliian mbdppe and suarz n Argentina Uruguay n brazil and england n France n Spain n almost all national have world class players. Tell me how women national team, world champion are there beside USA women team? Is like one, sided completion that's why its not marketable

  6. Women soccer in USA get equal pay? Not many watch women football well USA men's team more competitive in World,cup.. Men's football is reason we all excited n watch like Europe n south american n asian most marketing leagues is premier leagues.. So ladies before you saying everything must be equal and declaring men are sexist see the economic structure. You get get equal pay but sponsorship gonna lose money because compare to men football not many watch ladies football overall .

  7. Do they also have to forfeit their previously agreed upon benefits? Like the assured payment no matter if they play a game or not for example? Or do they men also receive those benefits from here on out? Cause this reaaaallllyyy feels like the women are getting way overpaid now.

  8. A bunch getting equally paid who got vanquished to a bunch of boys. What an absolute joke. Look at these clowns. This is already heading toward a disaster.

Behind every woke incentive, there's a female (Julie Foudy) and a bunch of simping beta males, and cancer called 'feminism.

  9. Honestly nobody really gives a fk about women's soccer but yet they are being little bitches about having big pay. Time to have them play matches against men's national teams then. See how they fail like pussies

  11. Honestly honestly play for the love of the sport. Why bring money into it. The world do recognise women's football more now what is the point in going back in time. I'm sorry but I hate us soccer now.

  12. Who's gonna caugh up the money to make equal pay and maintenance sustainability considering Women's Football doesn't generate anywhere near the man's income. Not being sexist, just using my business knowledge

  13. But will it stop there, probably not, you will want more and more, as every group of people do in the end. Its not about equality. People have more equality now, than ever before really. Why not just enjoy it.
