USA Soccer Special | Day 23 | World Cup Show

Nat Coombs turns his attention to the USA as the rise in popularity of soccer/football has been unprecedented this tournament with huge a increase since the World Cup 2010. Football is now competing with all major sports including NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. With a surge in interest in the USMNT along with a rising interest in the MLS, is this finally the dawn of soccer taking hold in the US?

  1. Mia Hamm, won The Women"s Football World Cup [In 1999] But the Women"s Prefessional League folded twice. Here in the UK we only see ESPN USA coverage brifly. It looks good,But we will see if the second season of Premiership Football on NBCSN and NBC keeops on getting good ratings. Rebeccia and Robbie are doing a good presenting job,but will the ratings hold with the time difference? What do Americian viewers think? GOD BLESS!

  2. De jeugd heeft de toekomst.
Begin klein, Europa kent wel duizenden voetbalclubjes.
Speel zondags een lekker potje voetbal voor je plezier en daarna de derde helft met een goeie pot bier in de voetbalkantine!!!

  3. It feels like it's been growing incrementally since '94, driven mainly by interest in the national teams.  Teams, because the Women's World Cup in '99 with Mia Hamm & co. was a media sensation, whereas hosting the cup in '94 felt more like a curiosity.  I agree with the comment below about MLS attendance also being a driver of its popularity.  Big games have a lively atmosphere that makes it fun for people who aren't already hooked, and being part of a raucous crowd is a sure way to catch the soccer bug.

  4. It's hard to say where the sport is headed. I've heard "this is the year I'm going to start following EPL" quite a bit here in the northeast, but we'll see. I think the most important part of our development is MLS attendance, which I am guilty of not being apart of. It's going to be a slow climb with spikes every 4 years for the world cup. If Sepp does the right thing(shouts to Spike Lee) and gives us the 2022 world cup from Qatar, that could be a watershed moment.

  5. Hello, sunburned Nat. I've been a MLS season ticket holder (San Jose) for four years and love soccer so much I don't have time to follow other sports.

Here in San Francisco we will regularly wake up at 7:30am on a Saturday to watch Stoke or whomever, but it feels best to watch our local pro team live in prime time. Two of our players were in the World Cup as well.
