Scally reacted well to Almiron's run, but then for some reason he misread the ball. As he was running with Almiron, he turned to look at the ball and slowed down to almost change direction for a moment, then started sprinting straight downfield again. I don't know if he thought the ball was going long or what. That allowed Almiron to get a yard or two on him. It was a small mistake but Almiron put the ball in first time with a high volley. If I recall, Robinson reacted slowly to the play when Arce took off. He started to catch up but then he slowed up instead of getting in front of Arce. I think he was taken completely off guard by Almiron putting the ball in first time. The whole play may have been offside or Robinson may have been playing Almiron on.
I think Tessmann was arguably the best player… He definitely had his best game for the US to this point. He kept Paraguay honest in the midfield the whole game. Gio reminds me of Zidane. Every touch he makes has purpose. Obviously he has a way to go to but we don't get many players like that. Dest dribbled too much, but I like the mindset and him being further up the pitch. I think he is better on the left side, but Arfsen was getting forward well over there. Coach needs to tell him to serve the ball in earlier and more often. It was a good, hard-fought win for this squad. Pepi did not do himself any favors.

Squad building is very important at this stage…of the 26 Argentinian players in their winning squad in 2022, 24 got playing time during the tournament. So you are likely to need two teams worth of quality players. With some of the noted players out of this camp it gives Poch a chances to develop an experienced roster
It was a decent performance for me man of the match was Gio Reyna, hes becoming the US James Rodriguez (not amazing at club level but he puts on his national team shirt and seems to transform into his best self) playing like that is only going to earn Reyna a spot in the world cup squad, Arfsten did play pretty well last night, I think he'll be the back up option to Antonee Robinson (providing Robinson gets over his lingering knee problem) the worry with Arfsten is hes limited defensively, if he comes up against an elite right winger at the world cup he could be in trouble, playing as a wing back in a back 3 system does help him out, i think he'll be in the world cup squad (though Poch is a hard man to read, you never know what hes going to do next)
