The kids in that system are ridiculously rich and have the ability to drive kids hours to and from Cincinnati everyday. Then fly or drive to out of state games. 17. To start with, to play top soccer as kids here parents have to find $10,000 p.a. per child.
    I had to bypass this cost, but my two young boys were still highly successful with West Ham International Academy, both at Soccer ID and North American levels (10 West Ham Coaches from London for the best 200 boys) select camps.
    We found our local MLS Trial was 100% pre-determined. We were clearly wasting our time attending the local MLS trail.

22. One of my biggest issues with these MLS club academies is the fact that FC Dallas, for example, has 5-6 teams per age group. The parents are paying for these kids to play. There's a few exceptions where some kids are offered scholarships but that's very uncommon. Money and greed ruin sports entirely and making it harder for kids to access the resources necessary for their growth is ridiculous.

23. There are 4 bigger sports in the US than soccer… Football, basketball, Baseball and hockey… soccer picks up the whatever athletes are left. It likely won't change. Also… the best young players who come through the "club" system pre college are mostly middle class to rich white kids cause it costs a fortune to play in these clubs cancelling out the poor kids who arguably have way more talent. The college teams are not that great (watch a game… you will see what I mean, technical ability is average to downright awful) Best thing a young up and coming american player can do is get to Europe or south america as soon as they graduate high school…

26. David Beckham may have just saved many, many young people's lives through football by making this demand. What a legend! I've seen lives saved through football growing up in West Belfast. It's not to be understated what an impact it can have. Incredible stuff!

27. USA relies on others to develop the talent. It is the same in universities, their post-graduate studies departments are also full of foreigners because most Americans do not pass the admission test. In sports, leagues wait for universities to exploit athletes (where they all help sell tickets and few make it pro). The leagues themselves rarely develop anyone.
