  1. BREAKING via ESPN:

"Danielle Reyna, wife of former United States men's national team captain Claudio and mother of current international player Gio, says she told U.S. Soccer sporting director Earnie Stewart about USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter's past domestic violence incident because she was frustrated by comments made about her son after the team's elimination from the 2022 World Cup."

Danielle Reyna said in a statement on Wednesday: "I thought it was especially unfair that Gio, who had apologized for acting immaturely about his playing time, was still being dragged through the mud when Gregg had asked for and received forgiveness for doing something so much worse at the same age."

"U.S. Soccer did not receive any details about the claims against Berhalter until Dec. 11, when an executive was informed in a call with Claudio and Danielle Reyna that Berhalter, 49, had a past domestic violence incident, sources told ESPN."

  2. When everyday people play NO role in electing the leadership, shaping the structure and determining the focus of their ostensibly national soccer federation – but former players have a COUNCIL that institutionalizes their influence and secures votes (read the bylaws), this is what you fucking get. Andrew Jennings, Lisana Liburd and Mel Brennan have told you over and over for more than a decade: you want the cockraoches, wanna-be gangster theives and nepotistic monsters OUT of the world's most democratically played and supported sport? Democratize the leadership and the leadership institutions. When YOU have a say in who runs US Soccer and not just former players like Reyna or Lalas or whomever (as if there is one scintilla of evidence that playing the sport builds or leads to the same skillet required to lead the sport), then YOU and I will get the governance we expect. Today, we're just getting the governance we deserve…until we DEMAND something different.

  3. No one mentions that is was extremely poor coaching that started all the trouble between Berhalter and Reyna. As American soccer fans, we all need to be pissed at Berhalter for benching a player of Reyna’s caliber and bringing in poor players as subs ahead of Reyna. The Reyna family is justified in being furious with Berhalter as American soccer fans and as Gio's parents. I feel their frustration. Berhalter has never convinced anyone why he decided well ahead of time Gio Reyna was going to have a limited role. I wonder if it was personal. Berhalter has proven to everyone that he has poor player management skills, and should not be in charge of USMNT.

  4. Don’t y’all want the us men’s team to win? Aren’t y’all tired of the semi’s being an acceptable goal? Come the fuck on! Like how people at this point even if you take away all this soap operas nonsense can want Gregg to still be coach is beyond me. He is mediocre at best and cant compete against real coaches if his life depended on it. Those that still support him are NUTZ.

  5. The problem with US soccer federation. All these people are baddies , friends . No boundaries. Maybe now they won’t hire coaches based on nepotism and coaches won’t be closely connected to teams players parents .

They need an outsider coach .

They reyna’s probably wouldn’t dare pull such stunts if they were close to Earnie Stewart and Gregg .

They should ban gio’s parents for life and if Gregg is fired it shouldn’t be over what happened 31 years ago .

  6. People wait and use things that happen years ago to bring you down after you get success.its the norm now .sad to say it's how the USA works now it seems lol

  7. Gio's mama is mad because her son didn't play. That's what this is about. The fact that Danielle would keep this "secret" in her back pocket for all these years and now reveal it to the world shows us that she is spiteful, manipulative and bat sh*it crazy…and has her husband Claudio on a leash.

  8. But wait! theres more!! No one is mentioning that Gregg Berhalter's son Sebastian played for Austin FC. Claudio Reyna is the sports director at that club. Following the 2021 season, Sebastian contract option was DECLINED. He now plays in a lower division team in Canada. Could it be that Gregg decided to go tit for tat?

"You don't think my son is good enough? Okay, I'll put your kid on the bench. How bout that"

  9. Neither US Soccer nor the Reyna parents have made any public statements about the incident that happened 30 years ago, not until Berhalter broke it first to the public's attention on his Twitter post.

  10. I don't need to know nor do I care what this guy did to his future wife decades ago. No one should care. No one should even know.

  11. You had my full attention until you said MARCO Bielsa….. god this whole situation about a mom complaining on behalf of his son plus now an American calling Marcelo, Marco

  12. So she sat on this info until she could use it – why not come forward before? I mean if she really cared she would have mentioned it long ago. It's not about what he did to his future wife it's what he did to her son – which was bench him because he was acting the tw4t. The upside is it'll get this no mark fired.

  13. Gio’s mums a Karen, trying to ruin a man’s coaching career because she didn’t get her way. She literally called the ‘manager’ of US soccer 😂. That being said USMNT should move on from Gregg.
