For those of you saying that Donovan is trash, he had the option to take a contract from Bayern because Klinsmann was interested in buying him after his 5 goals in 6 games (or close to that number) even though they were in friendlies. That is not something to overlook. Klinsmann was genuinely impressed by Donovan at the time but Donovan made a promise to LA that he would come back and make it his permanent home so he denied any chance of even thinking of staying with Bayern. Shortly after Klinsmann couldn't get his signature, it had been the last straw and he was fired from Bayern. This is why Klinsmann left Donovan out of the WC in 2014

I think Jermaine Jones doesn't seem to get any credit though he should also be considered a USMNT legend, despite being forced into positions he's not quite suited for thanks to the presence of the inferior Bradley. One of the only times he was used properly within the squad was during the 2014 WC and he was one of our very best players, if not our best. Some people in this country hate characters like him, but he's exactly what the USMNT will always need, and Dempsey is similar but he's revered because his role is more defined and respected by the staff and he's not always as demonstrative except for select moments or situations in a game. There is a hint of hypocrisy in the fandom there. He could at least have been included as a possible reserve.
