  1. Don't necessarily think this is a fair comparison. Keep in mind that football in the USA has only taken off in the last 20yrs. It's the 4th or 5th most popular sport, if that. Many folks have stronger affiliations to teams outside the country than they do the MLS teams in their own cities. Juxtapose this with Europe, wear football has been an integral part of sporting culture for centuries. Teams have had decades to form bonds with their cities and the people within them. You couple that with the fact other sports haven't really taken off in Europe and its no wonder that people are so passionate about their city's football team. If you want an example of rabid fandom in American sports, take a look at college football (especially in the mid-west or south). Those fans get wild.

  2. As an European, I prefer the atmosphere in the US Sports, but not just those. Rugby, Cricket, Tennis, Basketball, etc.
In most leagues, you CANNOT, I repeat, you CANNOT turn up as a visitor of another club in the wrong section of the stadium, without incurring the risk of causing a brawl, being insulted, spitted and worse ending up in hospital.

Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, France are just a few examples… Dad's with children being beaten up badly in front of their family, just because they refuse to take off the shirt.
    Insane.
As a fan of FC Porto I have seen opposition fans being treated badly by your average granddad's dad's. They have family!!!!

You speak with friends and family about these issues and the response most often than not is: "They asked for it!"

    Middle-ages behavior!
In those pictures how many women or children you see there? How many people of colour? None. It is an homophobic, testosterone fueled and in many cases racist organisations.
Most Ultras, organised associations (aka fans), should be in jail.
There is a serious problem with soccer at the moment. This has gotten worst since the early 80s…

You failed to check Turkish, Argentinean and Brazilian fans… They take things up a notch…

  3. Lol only Dortmund here are heavyweights, Europe has much better. Check out Red Star Belgrade, Galatasaray, Hajduk Split, Olympiacos, Partizan Belgrade, PAOK and i can go on..
